The Insider’s Guide: to Choosing the Right Mortgage Professional for You
One of the biggest mortgage mistakes that people make when shopping for a mortgage is they don’t ask the right questions. All most people ask about is rates and closing costs. That is not enough! If all you ask each Mortgage Professional that you talk to, is about rates and closing costs, then you are playing Russian Roulette with your money, your peace of mind, and your home. And you deserve better.
Thus, I have prepared 10 great questions for you to ask each Mortgage Professional that you are talking to including me. Why, am I doing this? Because, I hate seeing people being taken advantage of by other Mortgage Professionals.
These questions and their answers will reveal their experience, financial knowledge, customer service aptitude, integrity, and ability to help you. Isn’t this what truly matters? Their answers to these questions are much more important than their answers to questions about rates and closing costs.
You are free to choose any Mortgage Professional; but please do it by asking the right questions. Here are the 10 questions you must ask before choosing a Mortgage Professional.
- How many mortgages have you closed in your career? (If it is <100 be careful)
- What are your qualifications/education/experience? (Do they have a degree in accounting or finance?)
- Can you show me how my mortgage can help me reach other important financial goals?
- What financial investment sets mortgage rates? (If they say, Treasury Securities, they are wrong.)
- What market moving reports are you currently tracking for the future direction of interest rates? (If they can’t answer this intelligently, then you may miss out on the best rate.)
- Where does the majority of your business come from? Advertising? Repeat business? Referrals? (If they answer advertising, ask yourself “why?”)
- Are you paid commissions or salary? (Someone on salary has NO incentive for your loan to close!)
- How quickly do you return phone calls? (This is important for your peace of mind)
- Do you attend your loan closings? (It is critical that they do)
- Are you able to offer me/us a FHA loan? If so, how many FHA loans have they closed?
